This book was very delightful! I loved the writing, Olivia Besse did a wonderful job of making this a charming, witty, believable romantic comedy. The characters were great, they were funny, quirky and slightly neurotic. But the best part is that they are all very believably real. The story line was a bit over used a boy and girl grow up best friends and fall in love, but the way that Olivia Besse portrayed it and the comedy and lightheartedness behind it all made it a bit bit different than the rest. And don't get me started on the internal dialog, FANTASTIC! I swear I am still laughing thinking about some of my favorite parts!
I was instantly sucked into this story, the first chapter not only hooked me, reeled me in but also set the pace and tone for the rest of the book! This story is by far a perfectly realistic and amazingly awesome mess! The trials of a girl who doesn't know anything about dating, trying to jump into the dating scene head first after a crushing break up, gets all her advice from her best friend who's secretly in love with her. He gives her all the wrong advice and then sends her out on dates with his friends who he either knows she will hate or know that she is off limits. What could be better entertainment than that?
Max Fletcher is adorable, sweet, crazy in love with his best friend and hasn't got a clue about romance and love! After his best friend comes to him for dating advice he hatches a plan to try and get her to see him as more than a friend, but first he has to make her unattractive to other men and make all the men she dates seem like jerks to make him look better. I love Fletcher, he is not anything like all the typical book boy friends the perfect alpha male characters who seem to have it all together. Max Fletcher is insecure, unsure, and always completely sincere.
Riley Benson is cute, quirky, slightly neurotic and hopelessly confused! After finding out her boy friend of the past six years, Noah, has been cheating on her, she goes into a tailspin depression and leans heavily on her best friend since childhood, Max Fletcher, Who has been secretly in love with Riley "Since Forever Ago". The chemistry between Benson and Fletcher is adorably cute and slightly steamy. The banter between ALL of the characters is hilarious, I was literally laughing my A** off and definitely got a lot of "Ohh" and "ahh"'s in while reading this book.
There are a lot of typical college scenes in this book as well as, job interview, procrastination, mandatory study hours in the library, dress fittings and a wedding rehearsal dinner. See I just got you interested in reading "Since Forever Ago" didn't I? Good, because "Lie or No Lie" this book is worth the time energy and money to get in a few laughs and a bit of romance, it's "Not Lie", you should go out and get it!
