Floating Boy and the Girl Who Couldn't Fly by Stephen Graham Jones and Paul Tremblay

My Rating---> 3 out of 5 STARS

Read on Sept. 8th, 2014

    This book had an interesting plot. I enjoyed the fantasy of this story, the writing is impeccably done, everything flowed well and had a good pace and the characters were all very interesting. That being said, I had a hard time getting into the book, I don't know if it was just me but I felt like this boy with no name that can float around was such a lost child, and that there could have been a lot more to this story. I do love things like this though, people with unique powers or are "gifted".

    The characters are great, Mary the anxiety ridden teen trying to solve a mystery so that people would believe her about the floating boy. Mary is funny, anxious, always on the move and constantly thinking, thinking, thinking. The floating boy is a lost soul, he's sad lonely and clueless, the two of them together make for an interesting pair. I love the best friend, the policeman's son and the football boys. Everyone who isn't normally friends or don't usual pair up end up working together.

    Stephen Gramham Jones did well with this book and it's concept, cast of characters, and the writing. I personally wasn't entirely sold on this book, but would like to see a sequel because of the twist ending for Mary. I do think if you like fantasy, some mystery, and a bit of humor that you should definitely pick up this book.
