Okay, I absolutely LOVED this book, so much so that I read it in four hours time. The mystery is great, the little old ladies dead set in their meddling ways, the bickering between Lila and a curtain hunky single father and the small town gossip. I laughed so hard my husband looked at me questioningly, I was constantly on the edge of my seat, and so curious about the dang pond through the whole book. Jessica L. Randall did a wonderful job, the writing was just amazing and I look forward to seeing more from Randall in the future.

This story is about Lila who moved to the small community where her great-grandfather, grandfather, father, and aunt lived. After her grandfather, Isacc passes away, Lila inherits the house. She is excited to live there and looks forward to finally having roots and creating a future for herself. The house is old and in major need of fixing and while she begins the repairs on the house, strange things start to happen in that house. Her aunt, Ada isn't saying much of what the past held and is warning her away from the old pond in the back. This story has a fabulous combination of mystery and a bit of a romance in one.

These characters were unforgettable, I have always loved the small country towns and not just because of the scenery but because of the gossipy, pushy, snoopy little old ladies that want to know everything before everyone and have to have the best cooking/baking in town. They are my favorite people ever and Randall captured them perfectly, right down to the love they share for one another and each others families.

I am so glad I chose to read this delightfully quirky book, and I will be trying out these recipes in the back, and lastly I thank you Jessica L. Randall for sharing your talent with me.
