No Place Like Home by DeAnna Holland

My Rating---> 5 of 5 STARS

Read on Aug. 5th, 2014

    I want to start by saying overall I really enjoyed this book. The story line was great. Jules is a very strong girl that has been through a lot of things that a very difficult to overcome. DeAnna Holland wrote this story very well, the characters were great for the most part and it all flowed very well. I flew through this book in about three hours and didn't put it down, if that isn't an indication of how good it is than I don't know what is!

    Now, the characters! Jules is sooooo amazing, strong, independent, and responsible, also slightly scared from her difficult past, and I can relate as to why. DeAnna Holland wrote Jules so completely and believably right, jumpy around men, slightly untrusting, and conflicted. I instantly related to her and sympathized with her completely.

    Then there is Jake, oh Jake what to say about you...He has the looks and the suave personality, but he also is compassionate, understanding and patient. That being said, I didn't really like him that much. Don't get me wrong, Jake and Jules worked really well together, but he was a touch too controlling, overprotective, and maybe a bit fake, plus we keep being told by the secondary characters that he isn't a good guy, so we don't really want to like him. But, Skyler on the other hand, he seemed to be genuine. He is everything Jake is, but also a bit of what Jake was lacking as well. I wanted to see more of him and I hope that Ms. Holland writes a follow up with his story.

    Then there are the supporting roles, Nancy, I have no words for her. Nancy is by far the most amazing woman, doing what she does for Jules even though she could get into TONS of trouble for it, can you say Fairy God Mother? Then the cousins, Liz and Carly, comic relief for sure but genuinely awesome friends that are there for Jules and each other when they need one another, I hope to see more of them in this follow up book I'm hoping is written about Skyler (hehe)!

    So, that's my review! The book was a great read and it could have been a bit better because I didn't really want Jules to end up with Jake without giving poor Skyler a chance, but it was very well done!
